Yellow Pohutukawa Nursery Programme

Orakei School is well-endowed with over 300 native and exotic tree specimens, many in mature form, nurturing a new generation at their base. They also form a habitat for birdlife adding natural vitality to our school environs. We have established a programme to protect and nurture the biodiversity on-site.
We are fortunate to have a rare and beautiful yellow pohutukawa on our grounds. From this we are developing a unique Yellow Pohutukawa nursery programme as part of the senior students’ curriculum. The nursery will be managed by a cross-section of students and community volunteers.
Community Garden
The PTA and community volunteers aim to supplement Orakei School’s spectacular natural environment with practical and edible production from our own community garden. We gain sufficient support for this programme to teach the children, by example, how to live and eat healthily.
The students have enjoyed many years of mentoring on nursery routines through the Trees For Survival sponsored by Lions Tamaki Eastern Suburbs members.
