Amongst the regular schedule of activities are raffles, working bees, barbecues and student education attainment celebrations. Funds raised are spent on children’s educational and social needs such as a recent large purchase of wet day, lunchtime games.
Community
We welcome and are grateful for support given by local preschools, health professionals, churches, sports clubs, Ngati Whatua o Orakei Marae, Orakei residents, local business owners and business networks.
We invest in these relationships and welcome community-led learning and leadership opportunities for our students.
New entrants come to us from Orakei and Mission Bay Kindergartens, Kohanga Reo, Orakei Montessori and other local private child-care facilities. Orakei School aims to ensure all students enjoy a warm welcome.
We share community sports and cultural activities with both local cluster schools and schools further afield.
Student Leadership
School Houses
Students are allocated to a House/Whanau Group – Rimu, Pohutukawa, Totara, Kowhai – upon enrolment and develop character by being challenged to work in teams on House-led activities around the school and community. SPARC helps with sports leadership. The school is also developing a Young Leaders Programme.

School Council
Two students from each class are selected to be on the School Council. Council members are encouraged to lead their student peers in developing a safe, happy, learning environment at our school.
Routines, Expectations and Self-Discipline
Students lead the morning school karakia or prayer and brief assembly.
Each week a different class leads the school assembly. Our children develop self-esteem, confidence and competence in public speaking when they lead assemblies in front of their peers, parents and guests.
Parents, community members and sponsors attend regular assemblies which are held on Fridays at 2.00 in Orakei School hall.
